Foreign Minister Özdil Nami visits the TCCoC
Today, Foreign Minister Özdil Nami visited the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce. At the meeting, Fikri Toros, President of the TCCoC, congratulated Foreign Minister Özdil Nami for his initiative to open a Representative Office in Hungary, and also expressed his views pertaining to the recent crisis related to the hydrocarbon exploration activities taking place in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Foreign Minister Özdil Nami expressed that the TRNC Representative Office in Hungary opened within the framework of the Foreign Ministry’s strong vision aiming to integrate the Turkish Cypriots with the rest of the world. Minister Nami also relayed information to TCCoC President Toros pertaining to his contacts in Hungary, including the meetings he conducted with Turkish and Hungarian business people.
Foreign Minister Özdil Nami stated that following the commencement of unilateral hydrocarbon exploration and drilling activities by South Cyprus, Turkey’s seismic exploration activities are continuing with a view to protecting the rights of the Turkish Cypriots in the region, and added that the Greek Cypriot side has used this as an excuse to abandon the negotiating table.
Minister Nami also expressed that the issue of Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ) is a controversial aspect of the Cyprus problem and that the resolution of this issue should also be sought at the negotiating table. Foreign Minister Özdil Nami indicated that once the Cyprus problem is resolved, all controversial issues on the Island can also be resolved under a federal umbrella.
Conveying information to Toros regarding the recent developments related to the Cyprus problem, Minister Nami emphasized that it is unacceptable for the Greek Cypriot side to take unilateral initiatives and leave the negotiating table. Minister Nami added that the most recent crisis symbolizes the gravity of the Cyprus problem and that a settlement should be reached without further delay.
Eroglu: “We are watching every step taken by Greek Cypriots and Greeks”
Eroglu reiterated his call to the Greek Cypriot side to return back to the negotiation table instead of creating tension and later trying to make an advantage of it.
Reminding that there is Continental Shelf Limitation Agreement between Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and Turkey, Eroglu stated that Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa’s operations are within the scope of authority transfer made to Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) by the government and declaration of this as illegal by Greek Cypriot side conflicts with the realities.
Saying “Our people should not worry”, Eroglu emphasized that security, welfare and happiness of Turkish Cypriot people are safeguarded and the efforts are continuing for protecting their rights without deviating from the peaceful vision in favour of an agreement.
TCG Gelibolu protects Barbaros
TCG Gelibolu has fulfilled the mission of guardianship for Barbaros Hayreddin Paşa Search Vessel which performs research activities at the areas permitted by the TRNC government to TPAO.
TCG Bafra which was on duty at the Mediterranean Shield Movement, carried out the mission of monitoring the Bahama flagged Saipem-10000 platform vessel from a distance of 5 nautical miles which is performing drilling activities within the so called Exclusive Economic Zone of South Cyprus.
Greek Cypriots show strong response to UK, Sweden and Finland
It has been reported that the Greek Cypriot Administration showed a strong response to the UK, Sweden and Finland for the prevention of sending of a ‘note’ by the EU to the UN in relation to the Turkish activities in the so called Exclusive Economic Zone of South Cyprus. Greek Cypriot daily Fileleftheros reported that the content of the note is ‘very harsh and strong’ and the ‘main actor’ of this issue is London.
According to the paper Greek Cypriot government Spokesman Nikos Hristodulidis made a statement and said that the attitude of these three countries is an unfortunate development. Nikos Hristodulidis said that the UK has displayed this attitude in order not to make the atmosphere worse. EDEK also made a statement and said that the attitude of the UK, Sweden and Finland is unacceptable and provocative and also claimed that this action is a hostile behaviour towards an EU member country
EDEK’s uneasiness against Socialists in European Parliament continues
Greek Cypriot daily Politis reported that KS EDEK Party’s uneasiness continues against President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz and therefore against the Socialist Group who prevent European Parliament from condemning Turkey of its activities within the so called Exclusive Economic Zone of South Cyprus
The newspaper reported that although the uneasiness of KS EDEK continues,breaking away from Socialist Group within EP is not considered.
According to the paper, EP Socialists believe that, there are many party members who bear hostility towards EDEK because of its attitude in the 2004 referendum.
KITREB and Greek Cypriot Tourist Guides Association held a joint meeting at the buffer zone
The Board of Directors of Cyprus Turkish Tourist Guides Association (KITREB) and Greek Cypriot Tourist Guides Association held a joint meeting at the buffer zone.
At the meeting which took place in Solidarity House it was emphasized that tourism is a peace sector and the two association’s collaboration is important for the future of tourism in Cyprus.
Preparing proposals for mutual educational activities, overcoming problems, institutional cooperation and developing the profession of tourist guides were among the issues discussed at the meeting .
AASRC decides to organize international conferences in TRNC
American Academic and Scientific Research Center (AASRC),an esteemed center in the academic circles of U.S. which is followed by 26 different institutions and databases like Ulrichs Web, Index Copernicus, Google Scholar, decides to organize international conferences in TRNC
Within this framework, the first conference “Irtbıschet 2015- 10th International Conference” themed “International Conference for Global Initiative” will take place in Beylerbeyi, Girne between 26 – 28 March 2015.
The conference is aiming to create an opinion platform for the academicians from all over the world with the purpose of developing search and study in the areas of management science, information technologies, computer, health, education, political science, social science and engineering.
