President Eroğlu: “Negotiations should have a calendar”

In an interview President Eroğlu said that he has had a very fruitful meeting with the UN Secretary General – Ban Ki Moon. Eroğlu evaluated the positive attitude of Ban to their proposal to put a calendar to the negotiations as ‘pleasing’. Eroğlu also indicated that Ban Ki Moon has also reiterated his belief that the Turkish Cypriot side is sincerely in search of a solution.

Stating that they will start to discuss the substantial issues on 6 May, Eroglu said that the Greek Cypriot leader Anastasiades has come to the table with proposals that the Turkish Cypriot side cannot accept and added that he expects Anastasiades to put forward more reasonable proposals. Eroğlu pointed out that dragging out the negotiations can create anti-solution behaviour in both peoples.

Spokesperson of Turkish Foreign Ministry Bilgiç: “We are facing difficulty in understanding the refusal of Greece”

Related to the statement made by the spokesperson of Greece Foreign Ministry on Turkey-TRNC Continental Shelf Agreement, Spokesperson of the Turkish Foreign Ministry – Tanju Bilgiç said: “We are facing difficulty in understanding the refusal of Greece to information given by Turkey to the UN related to Turkish continental shelf boundaries in a region which is not associated with Greece, and to Turkey – TRNC Continental Shelf Agreement within this framework.”

Joint meeting on 1^st May at the buffer zone

Many non-governmental organizations and thousands of people from the TRNC and South Cyprus have come together in an activity organized by some Turkish and Greek Cypriot organizations at the Taksim Field at the buffer zone.

Prime Minister Özkan Yorgancıoğlu, 2^nd President Mehmet Ali Talat and ex-president of the Greek Cypriot Administration Dimitris Christofias also attended the meeting.

UN Under-Secretary General for Political Affairs Feltman coming to Cyprus on Sunday

UN Under-Secretary General for Political Affairs – Jeffrey Feltman is coming to Cyprus on Sunday.

According to the statement made by the UN Good Offices Mission in Cyprus, Feltman will meet President Derviş Eroğlu at 11:00 on Monday. Feltman will meet the Greek Cypriot Administration leader Nikos Anastasiades on the same day.

Feltman will also meet the Turkish Cypriot negotiator – Kudret Özersay and the Greek Cypriot negotiator – Andreas Mavroyannis during his 3 day visit.
