ÖZERSAY: “TOGETHER WITH ALL CONCERNED SIDES WE CAN END ALL CHAPTERS BY GIVE AND TAKE”

Turkish Cypriot Negotiator – Kudret Özersay made a statement following the negotiators’ meeting held at the buffer zone yesterday and said that they have reviewed 6 chapters so they are at a stage that all chapters will be Kudret Özersay 3discussed in detail together with all concerned sides and they can reach an end.

Adding that they reviewed the other chapters and the positions of the sides quickly previously, Özersay said that they discussed the position of the Turkish Cypriot side on the issue of Security and Guarantees that all guarantor countries should be a part of the negotiation process.

Moreover, Özersay expressed that as the Turkish Cypriot side, their aim is to make progress on some issues before the Leaders’ meeting and to make the leaders prepared for their meeting and to obtain a concrete result from the Leaders’ meeting.

Özersay also indicated that the Greek Cypriot side is trying to put an obstacle in the way for the ‘Deep Purple’ concert which is organized by the Near East University and stressed that during the process that the joint statement has been made and confidence building is aimed at between the two sides until a solution is agreed, the Greek Cypriot side’s attitude is not acceptable. Pointing out that this attitude of the Greek Cypriot side disturbed the Turkish Cypriots, Özersay said that Anastasiades should be aware of the situation and mutual confidential steps should be taken by both sides.

FOREIGN MINISTER NAMI MET NIEMAN AND ÖZDEMİR IN GERMANY

Foreign Minister Özdil Nami started his contacts in Germany yesterday.  Within the framework of his contacts Minister Nami first met with Social Democrat Party Parliamentarian and the member of German Parliament Foreign Relations Commission – Dietmar Nieman.

The negotiation process continuing in Cyprus was taken up at thOzdil Namie meeting which took place in the German Social Democrat Party Building. Foreign Minister Nami conveyed to German Parliamentarian Nieman the expectations of the Turkish Cypriot side and their vision for a solution.

Within the context of the EU, our demands related to the approaching European Parliament Elections and to the program for the Turkish Cypriot side’s harmonization to the acquis communautaire were taken up at the meeting and what can be done by Germany regarding  these subjects was also discussed.

Both sides expressed common opinion about the regional positive effects of a solution to be reached with the interest and support of the international community to the negotiations going on in the island.

Minister Nami also met Co-President of the German Greens Party, member of the Federal Parliament – Cem Özdemir at the Party Headquarters.  The Cyprus problem, harmonization program of the Turkish Cypriots to the acquis communautaire and the European Parliament Elections were taken up at the meeting.

AMBASSADOR AKCA: “IF A SOLUTION IS REACHED, SUPPLYING WATER TO SOUTH CYPRUS IS AMONG OUR TARGETS”

In the speech he made in a panel he participated in, Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa – Halil İbrahim Akça said that among the targets of their project of ‘carrying water with pipelines from Turkey’ also there is providing drinking and usage water to South Cyprus.

The Ambassador also said that such a foresight is out of the question according to the present plans.   Akça stated that while the TRNC Water Supply Project was being prepared some proposals came from the academicians in South Cyprus and he added: “However no official proposal or initiative was made.”
