Little Society of Kyrenia gives major boost to Mayor of Çatalköy

By Chris Elliott

“From little acorns do big oak trees grow” and so we see the efforts of man creating good for mankind. A fine example of this has been the activities of John Graham and his helpers through a charity he founded in the UK,  “The Little Society”.

Being a regular visitor to North Cyprus and spending more here, John has continued his good work for the past two years seeing money donated under the name of “ The Little Society of Kyrenia” to a number of projects, focusing on those which will benefit the health, welfare and education of children and young people here in North Cyprus.

Founded by John Graham, and helped by Mary Watson, the Little Society of Kyrenia aims to give support to causes and local charities which are not funded elsewhere and encourages those organisations to take some responsibility for their own funding so that they can thrive in the longer term.

The LSOK is delighted to have been able to support the extension of the school in Çatalköy by donating 7,957 TL to help with the school building and a further 1,000TL for something special when the building is opened.

So it was on Tuesday 23rd July that John together with Figen Kaymak, the Creditwest Bank Branch Manager, presented a cheque for 8957 TL to a delighted Mayor of Çatalköy,  Mehmet Hulusioĝlu, who expressed his great thanks and appreciation (in Turkish) for this wonderful donation. See the video below of this event.

Of this event, John Graham said: the local community have been fundraising for some time and we are pleased that the British Community have been able to join them in this project which will have a significant impact on the education ofLittle Society of Kyrenia school children in the village.

Soe we can look forward to the future with news of further projects developing where LSOK will be trying to help children and young people throught health, welfare and education development in North Cyprus.
