North Cyprus Cancer Charity Trust  – Christmas Fair

Christmas is getting closer and closer and this week on Saturday 8th December, NCCCT held a Christmas Fair together with their coffee morning at the Pia Bella Hotel in Girne.   The Fair started atLots of people at the Christmas Fair 11am, a little later than usual and the event was held outdoors on the terrace as it was a warm and sunny morning, this is one of the lovely things about North Cyprus that even in December we can still enjoy ourselves outside.

There was over 300 people attending during the morning and looking around the many stalls displaying their goods includingLovely hand-painted tiles festive foodstuffs, home-made cakes and quiches, greetings cards, paintings, plants, bric-a-brac and clothing, many items suitable for Christmas gifts as well as treating yourself.

You always see so many familiar faces at these types of events and this one was no exception so it is nice to catch up with people you don’t see too often and there was the usual coffee morning treats of tea/coffee and cakes, sausage rolls and mince pies.

There was Christmas music playing in the background, Santa There's Santa ClausClaus was there to say hello to the children (and adults) and Mike Alican took over the microphone every now and again to let everyone know what was happening, his co-Bingo Night organiser, Carole Lloyd,  was busy selling raffle tickets accompanied by Ron Brown.  The Committee and helpers for this charity all work extremely hard and thanks are given to them for their time and support of this very worthy cause.

During the morning the Chairman, Angela Hasman thanking everyone for their supportAngela Hasman, thanked everyone for coming and wished everyone a Happy Christmas and good wishes for the New Year.  The January coffee morning has not yet been finalised and will be confirmed later and the February coffee morning will be held at the Rocks Hotel on 12th February 2013  at 10am.

There was a stall selling little bundles of sunflower seeds for the charity and during the morning Mike Alican offered the special calendar which had been produced (with himself as one of the months!) for auction and a final successful bid of 100TL was made, so someone is the lucky owner of this unique calendar.    Mike also How about buying some sunflower seedsannounced later that, including the calendar, this stall alone had raised a staggering 816.65TL.   Just think of all those sunflowers we will be seeing in many gardens around the area next year.

Marion Stuart took the microphone and displayed an Albert Square name sign which had been signed by past and present members of Eastenders and was up for auction to the highest bidder.  There was a reserve on the images[3]sign and a bid had already been made by email so Marion asked if anyone would like to make an offer to top the bid already received.   Someone offered £100 sterling but unfortunately this was lower and we were then told that the email bid had been for 1500TL so the sign would be going back to the UK to this lucky new owner.

Pauline Collins with the raffleThen came the raffle and there was a large amount of really nice prizes and smiling winners.

The morning was drawing to a close and the stalls were starting to pack their unsold items, the people attending were wending their way homewards with their purchases and the NCCCT Christmas Fair for 2012 was at an end, but what a lovely event it was.

Angela later confirmed that the grand total for the event was 9,535TL so this was a wonderful result and thanks are given to all the people who attended to give support to NCCCT.
