Türkiye’s FM: End Isolation of Turkish Cypriots

Fidan: “It is essential to end unjust and inhumane isolation imposed on Turkish Cypriots”

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye, Hakan Fidan, delivered remarks to the press following the Informal Meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS).

Fidan stated that recent developments in the Middle East have raised serious concerns across the region. He noted that OTS member states stressed they were closely monitoring the situation and expressed their desire to prevent the conflict from escalating or spreading further.

Addressing the Cyprus issue, Fidan recalled that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus has held observer status in the OTS since 2022, describing this as a strong demonstration of the unity and solidarity within the Turkic world.

He also emphasised the need to end the unjust and inhumane isolation imposed on Turkish Cypriots. Referring to them as an inseparable part of the Turkic world, Fidan added that supporting initiatives aimed at lifting these isolations constitutes a historical responsibility.
