24 November Kyrenia Teachers’ Day Dinner Was A Big Success

The 24 November Teachers’ Day Dinner, traditionally organized by the Kyrenia Municipality every year, was held with intense participation this year. This year, the dinner was held at the Dome Hotel on Tuesday, November 25; Public school teachers and retired teachers working in the Kyrenia region attended. The dinner, which was attended by Kyrenia Mayor Murat Şenkul and Kyrenia Municipality Council Members Ali Tektan, Ayşe Karalıgil, Burak Anıldı, Halil Oktunç, Kani Çağla, Mete Ünal Girgen and Ziya Egemen Sencer, started at 14:00. At the event, where Kyrenia Mayor Murat Şenkul gave a speech, retired teacher Ayşe Tural made a short speech and read a poem.

Murat Şenkul: “This is what we mean by being in the city together.”

Kyrenia Mayor Murat Şenkul started his speech by congratulating all teachers on November 24, Teachers’ Day. He said, “On this special day, it is not possible to commemorate Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. We respectfully commemorate our great leader who made us live today,” he said. Pointing out that retired teachers are among them this year, Şenkul noted that the idea emerged as a result of the suggestion of Ziya Tüzel, the Director of 19 Mayıs Turkish Maarif College, and that this is exactly what they mean when they say “we are Kyrenia together” and that they are open to similar ideas.

Underlining that their only regret about today is that the teachers who were invited to the event and work in the private sector could not participate, Şenkul self-criticized that there was a lack of organization in this regard and said, “Our wish was that the administrations of private education institutions would allow their teachers on this special day and they would be with us.” Adding that a dinner is being planned for next year in order to solve this problem, Şenkul concluded his speech by saying, “In this way, we will be with all our teachers.”
