7th International Vounous Terracotta Symposium Has Started

The 5,000-year-old Vounous cultural heritage, long abandoned among piles of garbage and rubble, is being revitalized through the 7th International Vounous Terracotta Symposium. Organized with the contributions of Çatalköy-Esentepe Municipality, the symposium began with a grand opening last night, the 1st September 2025.

Art Journey Opens to the Public

From 1-16 September, events will be held daily between 17:00 and 23:00, offering visitors the opportunity to watch artists create terracotta works in real-time. These open-air workshops will be accessible to the public, providing a unique cultural and artistic experience.

Artists from Around the World and Cyprus at Vounous

This year’s symposium features 20 international artists from Turkey, Sweden, Italy, France, Russia, and the USA, alongside 50 local artists, academics, and ceramic enthusiasts from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The gathering aims to showcase Cyprus’s rich cultural heritage and highlight the universal power of art.

“Vounous is on its way to becoming a global brand.”

Çatalköy-Esentepe Mayor Ceyhun Kırok emphasized the symposium’s significance, stating:

“Vounous International Terracotta Symposium has become a brand that introduces the cultural identity of not only our region but also our country to the world. The collaboration between our local artists and those from seven different countries will greatly contribute to the history, culture, and art of Cyprus.”

The Countdown Has Started for the Exhibition and Opening

Mayor Kırok concluded with an invitation:

“I invite our art lovers and all our people to the workshops from 1-16 September, and especially to the exhibition and opening ceremony on Sunday, 14 September at 19:00. Let’s keep art and culture alive together in the fascinating atmosphere of Vounous.”
