The Kyrenia Ozanköy 17th Carob Molasses Festival
The Kyrenia Arkın Group Fest25 kicked off with the 17th Ozanköy Molasses Festival on Friday, August 29th. The festival, which saw a large turnout, featured food and beverage stalls, folk dance performances, live music, and various seminars. The event began with a refreshing drink called “Şira” and continued until 11:00 PM.
The 17th annual festival was attended by notable figures including Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Members of Parliament, People’s Party (HP) Kyrenia District Executive Board Members, Kyrenia Mayor Murat Şenkul, Çatalköy-Esentepe Mayor Ceyhun Kırok, Kyrenia Municipal Council Member and Vice Mayor Haşim Yücel, and other council members and administration officials.
The first day was packed with events. The festival opened with a folk dance performance by the Kyrenia Municipality Folk Dance Ensemble. Following the refreshments of “Şira,” Bikem Tunar Feat. The Gibsy Brothers took the stage at 7:30 PM. Naile Soyel, Kyrenia Municipality Health Branch Manager, Assistant Director, and Food Engineer, delivered a speech on “Molasses: Natural and Super Food,” followed by a modern dance performance by Zumba Kids Joy. The evening concluded with a concert by Grup Salt at 9:00 PM.
Saturday events
Commencing at 7:00 PM, the evening opened with a presentation detailing the life of poet Osman Türkay, delivered by Leman Özdoğanoğlu, a representative of the Osman Türkay Foundation. This was followed at 7:30 PM by a performance from the Folk Arts Association (HASDER) folk dance group, which received significant acclaim. At 7:45 PM, artist Can Barış entertained the audience with a musical performance. The Orak Culture, Art, and Education Center (OKSEM) presented another folk dance show at 8:45 PM, and the evening concluded with a well-received concert by Serdar Kavaz & Orchestra at 9:00 PM.
Sunday Events
The festival’s final night included traditional carob dessert preparation, a molasses desserts competition, and results announcements. Highlights were presentations by Mehmet Atak, dance shows from the North Cyprus Filipino Association and Nostalgia Folk Dance Ensemble, plus concerts by Ebru, Amor Latino, and İbrahim Özbaskın-Zek & Orchestra. On September 3, the Girne Arkın Group Fest 25 opens with a cortege at Ramadan Cemil Square, followed by a free Candy Club on Broadway dance show and a Nafiz Dölek concert. Kyrenia West Nature Park will host Youth Concerts from September 5-7, featuring artists like Teoman, Manga, Athena, and more, along with DJ sets, food stands, and surprises.
