Aliyev: “We will always stand by our Turkish Cypriot Brothers”

The President of Azerbaijan İlham Aliyev, stated that they will always stand by their brothers in their pursuit of international recognition as an independent state.

President Aliyev delivered a speech at the international forum entitled “Towards a New World Order” held at ADA University in Baku with the participation of more than 80 experts from 44 countries.

Speaking on relations with the TRNC, Aliyev noted that he is in contact with President Ersin Tatar.

TRNC is an observer member of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS)

He added that Azerbaijan played an active role in the TRNC becoming an observer member of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), and that he had invited President Tatar to the informal summit of the OTS held in Shusha.

Reminding that the flag of the TRNC was flown in Shusha during the OTS Summit, Aliyev said, “We are always stand with our brothers. Our policy has always been clear. We have no other agenda on this issue. We only think about how we can help our brothers preserve their statehood. They deserve this both historically and through their actions.”

Noting that while the TRNC said “yes” to the Annan Plan, the Greek Cypriot Administration rejected it, President Aliyev stated, “Is this just? This is a clear example of a double standard. Our brothers in the TRNC can rest assured that we will support them until their state is recognized as independent by the international community.”
