Northern Cyprus shares its Daily News of Life and Times around the world
Arkin University of Creative Arts and Design (ARUCAD) Graffiti Club and Nature Sports Club, in collaboration with SPOT Marine Life and with the support of the North Cyprus Eco-Agro Tourism Federation, organized an event aimed at raising environmental awareness to protect the sea turtle nesting beaches in the Mediterranean Special Environmental Protection Zone. During the event, held in 2023, more than 165 kilograms of waste were collected from the shoreline that hosts over 500 nests. The ARUCAD Graffiti Club added colour to the beach by drawing on the concrete barriers placed on the shore.
The ‘Coastal Clean-up and Wall Painting’ event addressed serious issues in the region concerning the conservation of sea turtles while highlighting one of the major problems – the entry of vehicles such as ATVs, Jeeps, and motorcycles to the beach. Concrete barriers placed to prevent vehicle access to the shore were adorned with drawings by the ARUCAD Graffiti Club. The event, organized to spread environmental awareness and protect the habitats of sea turtles, saw significant participation from ARUCAD students.
