March 8th is International Women’s Day and Cypriot female artists Kamran Aziz and Jale Dervis will be remembered with a poetry and music concert.

Girne Municipality have organised the event which will take place in the Girne Municipality Chamber Theatre on Friday 8th March at 20:00. It will be open to the public and free of charge. At the event there will be a visual presentation by Eralp Adanır in memory of Kamran Aziz and Jale Derviş.  Poems will be read by Filiz Yuvalı and the Saint Hilarion String Quartet will present music.

Girne Mayor Nidai Güngördü stated that Kamran Aziz and Jale Derviş left permanent works inspired by Turkish Cypriot folk music with songs such as ”Al yemeni mor yemeni” and  “My Cyprus”.  Jale Derviş returned to the country after studying piano in England, and trained many Turkish and Greek Cypriot pianists and also introduced Cypriots to classical music.

Güngördü said that the 8th March International Women’s Day in the field of music in the TRNC will be the cornerstone of two women artists to live in joy and excitement.
