The late Filiz Naldöven’s name will be given to a street with a ceremony on Friday 8th March, on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
In line with the decision of the Girne City Council, retired teacher and poet Filiz Naldöven who died in 2016 will be given a street name in Girne on 8th March, for International Women’s Day. On 8th March at 11am a ceremony will be held at the street connecting Karaoğlanoğlu Caddesi with 19 Mayıs Street (between Terranova and Levent Apartments) when Filiz Naldöven will be remembered with one of her poems.
Girne Mayor Nidai Gűngördű, stated Filiz Naldöven received a special award at a previous Turkish Cypriot Cartoonists Association, International Olive Cartoon Competition. He also said that Filiz Naldöven was one of the important poets of our country, and that they would give her name to a street on March 8th, International Women’s Day. Güngördű, said that this is a meaningful day and everyone is waiting for the ceremony to be held for the street opening.
WHO IS FİLİZ NALDÖVEN?
Filiz Naldöven was born in Limassol on 24th of August, 1953. After graduating from 19 Mayıs High School, she graduated from Istanbul University, Faculty of Literature, Department of Philosophy. She worked as a teacher in various schools for 14 years and retired in 1991. Her first poems were published in Limassol “Kaynak“ magazine. In 1984, her play Köşede Durmak was awarded second place in the NTM competition; it was staged in 1985.
In 1987, Naldöven published her first poetry collection book “Sevgiden Doğma“ (Love From Nature). This was followed in 1994 by the poetry book Magma Mavera. The artist published collections of her poems in the books Aşk Beni Yıka in 1999, ’Hafızalı Doku’ in 2013 and ’Su Ağacı in 2014.
Filiz Naldöven, whose poems were translated into English, Greek and German, wrote weekly articles in the Sunday supplement of the Afrika newspaper; She was the editor-in-chief of the literary magazine Arka Bahçe.
