Five-Party Conference continues in Mont Pèlerin
The five-party conference, where “Security and Guarantees” were discussed, continues today in Mont Pèlerin, Switzerland, after a five-day break.
Following three days of intensified negotiations that took place in Geneva, the parties agreed to a break in the conference until 18 January, at Greece’s request. The conference began on 12 January with the participation of both sides in Cyprus and the three guarantor countries.
The Turkish Cypriot negotiator Özdil Nami is heading a working group which is representing the Turkish Cypriot side at the conference. The other members of the working group are Presidential Spokesperson Barış Burcu, Special Advisor for Diplomacy and the EU Erhan Erçin, the President’s Legal Advisor Sülen Karabacak, Foreign Affairs Expert İpek Borman and Negotiation Team Member Sertaç Güven.
Following the previous negotiations, the conference is expected to continue at the political level and a final decision will be taken at the end of the month, or in early February, on “Security and Guarantees”.
The Greek Cypriot side is attending the conference with a working group of four people, which is headed by Andreas Mavroyannis.
Turkey is expected to be represented at the conference by a delegation under Deputy Undersecretary Ahmet Muhtar Gün, of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Both sides are expected to discuss their recommendations for “Security and Guarantees” at the five-party conference in Mont Pèlerin.
