There are students at the universities both in Famagusta and here in Girne who are in poverty. Not through profligate living but because their families cannot get money to them because of political reasons in their home country.
These students have to choose between food, lodging and education to extend their lacking funds. Some but not all students do manage to find work in North Cyprus however their payment does not always turn up on time, sometimes not at all.
The Church Warden in Famagusta tries to collect, 
dried, tinned and packaged foods and personal items such as shaving items, toothpaste and brushes, shampoo and shower gel, and small amounts of money to help the students with their choices, these are distributed as required. However as the congregation in Famagusta are mainly students it is very difficult for them all.
We should like us from St. Andrews to help those in Famagusta and the affected students in Girne, these are our brothers and sisters in Christ.
‘And the king will answer them, “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.” Matthew 25:40)
We know many members of our congregation have fixed, limited incomes. However if you can pop an extra item in your shopping basket, or when shops offer us an incentive to shop with them, or special offers and if you do not need them, please bring these items to us so we can help these students during their times of need. We will arrange to store and deliver these gifts to those that need them. Anyone who can help us in this will be thankfully, and gratefully welcomed.
This will be an ongoing appeal until the political situation is resolved. Thank you
