Last Sunday 27th March the first Creditwest Cricket League 2016 game was between Middle East Technical University and Cyprus International University, at the Alsancak ground.

CIU Captain Mohammad Zaman won the toss and put METU to the bat first.

METU didn’t make a good start, they were 1 wicket down on 5 runs. They were constantly losing wickets. The highest scorer from METU was Mohsin Khan with 18 runs. As usual CIU showed their strong bowling side and they didn’t let any batsman from METU settle on the crease.

Despite METUs struggle, they were only able to make 122 runs in 20 overs.

Hows that
Hows that!

It was not an easy chase for CIU. They were at a disadvantage because they were late for their match. As a result they were penalised and lost 5 overs.

In the reply to 122 runs Yasir Shah and Sulman Khan from CIU displayed excellent talent in their batting skills. Not only did they rescue their team in such a desperate situation but amazingly set a new record in the TRNC cricket association, winning the match with openers.

The CIU players are an excellent team. Their strong bowling side is also their powerful weapon, however, it was Yasir Shah and Sulman Khan’s Show.

With the help of 5 sixes and 2 fours, Yasir Shah achieved a score of 45 runs. With the help of 6 sixes and 3 fours, Sulman Khan achieved 66 runs. They helped to secure a victory for CIU in the TRNC Creditwest Cricket league spring 2016..

History was changed by EMU, defeating Gentlemen of Girne, for the first time in the history of TRNC cricket.

It was a lucky day for EMU (Eastern Mediterranean University) Captain Sohail Kahilji won the toss and put GG (Gentlemen of Girne) into bat first. GG captain, Danish Afridi, and Rehmat Khattak came to open the batting for GG, They were in trouble when they lost their 1st wicket in 1st over of the match without scoring any runs.

With one wicket down, Janwali Khan added a useful six runs for GG, but, after that, none of the GG players proved able to stay at the wicket, except a remarkable innings from Rehmat Khattak 33 runs and Sohail Khan also succeeded in reaching double figures with 11 runs.

Amazing bowling by EMU limited the champions of Creditwest 2014 autumn and Creditwest 2015 Spring GG to a total of 98 runs, with their top bowler, Sayed Mayed Hussain, taking four wickets for only four runs.

In the response to their 98-run target, EMU looked very comfortable from the start. Captain, Sohail Khailji and Zia Ullah made an impressive start with a 37-run partnership – a strong foundation built upon by EMU Sohail Khailji adding 8 runs and Zia 10 runs.

After the ‘top set’ batsmen, the ‘one down’ and ‘two down’ players were not so successful in their batting, but the fourth batsman, Umar, added a very important and a match winning score of 28 runs and the final 12 runs made by Shah sealed the match for EMU who won the match by three wickets in the TRNC Creditwest Cricket league spring 2016.
