UK is glad about the status of the negotiations

After the meeting with President Mustafa Akıncı, the British High Damian Roderic ToddCommissioner to Nicosia – Damian Roderick Todd responded to Kıbrıs newspaper’s questions and he mentioned his gladness about the status of the negotiations which is managed by UN Secretary-General’s Special Adviser on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide and both Leaders. “We realized the trust between the Leaders” he said.  Todd also emphasized that the UK is going to support the negotiation process as well as she can. He also mentioned that the process has moved forward and he wished good luck to the Leaders.

Ambassador of Russia to Nicosia – Stanislav V. Osadchiy, the British High Commissioner to Nicosia – Damian Roderick Todd, and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Southern Europe and Eastern Mediterranean Affairs at the State Department – Amanda Sloat, were received respectively by President Mustafa Akıncı.  No statements were released after the meeting.

Koenig: “America will always support the two Leaders towards a united Cyprus

America will always stand by the side of the two Leaders, Anastasiades and Akinci, as they work towards peace and towards a united Cyprus, US Ambassador to South Cyprus John Koenig said yesterday.

The US Ambassador held a reception in his John M koenig smlresidence on the occasion of United States` National Day Celebration yesterday. The reception was also attended by the Greek Cypriot leader Anastasiades.

In his remarks, John Koenig noted that the past year has certainly had its ups and downs, including the Cyprus peace process.

“Now we see a new and positive energy, thanks to the extraordinary commitment and efforts of the two Cypriot Leaders and with the strong support of civil society and the United Nations”  he noted and told Greek Cypriot leader Anastasiades that all are rooting for him and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci to push ahead towards peace, and keep going even if they meet with temporary setbacks.

“We will be there cheering you on.  More than that, I promise that America will always be by your side as you and Mr. Akinci work towards peace, towards a united Cyprus” he added. On bilateral relations, the US Ambassador noted that cooperation between USA and Cyprus has attained a new, strategic quality under the Anastasiades Administration.  “Cyprus and America have strong ties based on our shared values and history – and a good number of shared citizens” he added, noting that in the last three years bilateral relations have intensified dramatically and to mutual benefit. “Together, we have increasingly focused our cooperation on regional and global challenges and opportunities such as counter-proliferation, peace-building, counter-terrorism, and renewed economic growth” he stressed.

Turkish and Greek Cypriot Chamber of Commerce held contacts in Germany

Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce and Greek Cypriot Chamber of Commerce and Industry called on German officials to support and invest in Cyprus after a settlement. According to the statement of Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce, the President of the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce (KTTO) Fikri Toros and the President of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KEBE) Phidias Pilides held contacts in Berlin, Munich and Hannover and they were accompanied by German Ambassador to Nicosia Nikolai Von Schoepff.  They focused on the solution of the Cyprus issue and the benefits it will bring to the Eastern Mediterranean both as stability and prosperity. During their meetings, Toros said that they had briefed them about the developments in the north of Cyprus and how the economy of the country needed to be developed with more EU harmonization. He also noted that the two sides’ Chambers worked well together.
