Mike Alican – Rest in Peace

By Margaret Sheard…..

I write this with tears in my eyes about a man who would do anything for anybody and was always cheerful and smiling – Mike Alican.   Many people knew that he had been diagnosed with the dreaded disease of Mikecancer but it was such a shock to learn that he had died on Tuesday 30th September.  I actually saw him the day before and although I thought he looked very poorly he was talking and laughing with a group of friends in such a determined manner, so to hear that he was with us no more the following day was devastating.

Mike was a dedicated supporter and committee member of NCCCT and was always at their events meeting and greeting the people who attended. He will be greatly missed by his fellow committee members as well as the many people who attended his weekly bingo sessions at The Lodge in Çatalköy which he ran with his wife Trigg until her death a couple of years ago and he then continued in her memory.  The Lodge made donations from the bingo nights to the NCCCT charity from the proceeds.

I have heard from one of Mike’s close friends that the funeral is to be at Green Hill Cemetery on Tuesday 7th October at 10.30am.  I am sure there will be many friends attending to pay their respects to Mike, a man with a big heart who will be sorely missed by so many people.

Rest in Peace Mike

  1. I agree with your portrayal of Mike Alican. A man who loved life and everyone. I was very sad to hear he had passed away……..no more jokes in Supreme then. RIP Mike.

  2. What a sad loss-he was a great fundraiser for NCCCT and supporter of the Esentepe Fun Run and Ramble.I met up with Mike a couple of weeks ago following his house move to Esentepe. He looked relaxed, happy and was excited about spending his retirement in Esentepe.Little did he know that he was seriously ill.

RIP Mike …..we will miss you!
