Speaker of TRNC Assembly Siber: “We should remember that a solution is made by the leaders on paper however peace is made by the people in their hearts”

Speaker of TRNC Assembly Sibel Siber published a message on the occasion of 1st September World Peace Day. In her message Sibel stated that World Peace Day is celebrated in a world where peace is not properly interiorized, a peaceful solution cannot be found for many disputes and the wars continue and added: “Reaching a viable solution is our biggest objective. The studies to be made for making a peace while the solution negotiations continue is very important. A lasting peace can be reached, if solution and peace are achieved together. To make peace is more difficult than making a solution; but the thing that will make the solution lasting is the peace culture internalized by the communities. For this reason, using peace rhetoric is important.

We should remember that a solution is made by leaders on paper however peace is made by the people in their hearts. In the geography we live, the increasing number of people who are longing for peace reveals the reality that a viable solution in our country is very important for regional peace”.

Turkish President Erdoğan will visit TRNC today

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will visit TRNC today. Erdoğan will make his first official visit to the TRNC upon the invitation of President Eroğlu in his new role as the Turkish President. Erdoğan will arrive at 12:00 and will be welcomed by President Eroğlu at Ercan Airport.

Erdoğan will visit mausoleums of the leader of Turkish Cypriots’ Struggle of Freedom Dr Fazıl Küçük and the Founding President Rauf Denktaş and lay wreaths.

An official welcoming ceremony will be held at 13:15 at the Presidency and Erdoğan and Eroğlu will hold a joint press conference at 15:15 at the Presidency.

Erdoğan is expected to leave the TRNC after completing his visit at 21:00

Leaders meeting postponed

The UN asked for the postponement of the leaders meeting which is scheduled to be on 2nd September, due to the Cyprus visit of Special Advisor of the UN Secretary General to Cyprus – Espen Barth Eide. Both sides responded positively to this request.

According to the statement made by the UNFICYP Spokesperson – Michael Bonnardeaux the date of the September meeting of the leaders will be set during the visit of Eide which will be between 5-8 September.

Turkish Cypriot negotiator – Kudret Özersay said that Eide will be received by President Eroğlu on 5 September and they will also meet on 6 September.
