Ipekcioglu Ticaret, Famagusta : A Stitch in Time

I recently joined a sewing and sewing machine class run by Stephanie Kuyucu at her new Kyrenia Academy for Education and the Arts (near the Bellapais Roundabout), as I felt a relaxing hobby would be a good idea for the winter period when more time is spent indoors.

As luck would have it, I saw a second-hand sewing machine for sale, and so I decided to buy it.  Then, coincidentally, during a visit to Famagusta Old City I discovered a lovely Singer Sewing Machine shop which was like a jewel in the sand.  There was absolutely everything I needed there – zips, felt, cottons, beads etc.   I couldn’t resist taking a few photos.

The shop, Ipekcioğlu Ticaret, is just inside the Famagusta Old City entrance.  There are second-hand sewing machines for sale at very reasonable prices and the ladies there speak English as well as Turkish and are very helpful.  The telephone numbers are 0392 366 4878 and 0542 851 4207.

This is quite a surprise new hobby in my life and I would recommend it to anyone who would like to occupy their time with a new interest.   It’s not only an opportunity to learn something new or improve on what you already know but also a get-together of people and a chance to make new friends who share the same interests.
