Eroğlu : “There is huge difference between the demands of the Turkish Cypriot side and the Greek Cypriot side”  

President Derviş Eroğlu said that there is huge difference between the demands of the Turkish Cypriot side and the Greek Cypriot side.

Recording that the Greek Cypriot side demands territory for 160 thousand people, Eroğlu said that they also retreated from the rotating presidency.

Adding that there is no problem in the bi-zonal, bi-communal federation model based on political equality, President Eroğlu said: “The essential issue is how this is going to be defined.”

President Eroğlu will meet UN Secretary General

President Derviş Eroğlu will meet the UN Secretary General – Ban Ki Moon at 22:30 TRNC time (15:30 New York time) tonight.  Eroğlu will give a press conference after the meeting.

President Eroğlu will also participate in the dinner given in his honour by Turkish Permanent Representative at the UN, Ambassador – Halit Çevik.

In addition, President Eroğlu will meet the President of one of the prominent think tank groups in the USA, the Council on Foreign Relations – Dr. Richard N. Haass on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Yorgancıoğlu: “There is an opportunity for a solution”

Prime Minister Özkan Yorgancıoğlu said that there is an opportunity for a solution in Cyprus and this opportunity should be very well evaluated.

Calling both leaders in Cyprus to speed up the negotiation process, PM Yorgancıoğlu said that people should also be more active in order to motivate their leaders for a solution.

Moreover, stating that a solution to be reached in Cyprus will not satisfy both sides in a perfect way and some problems may occur, PM Yorgancıoğlu said that these problems will be minimized by negotiations.

Answering the questions of Cyprus Turkish News Agency (TAK) regarding the Cyprus negotiations, Prime Minister Özkan Yorgancıoğlu said “We consider that the joint statement should form the framework of the new negotiation process. Both leaders have their own signatures on this joint statement”.
