EROĞLU: “OUR AIM IS TO REACH A SETTLEMENT”

President Derviş Eroğlu said that their aim is to reach a settlement which will enable their people to live in peace and security on this land.

During one of his receptions, President Derviş Eroğlu pointed out that it is very important to reach a settlement which will not make their people experience the same disturbances as in the past. Adding that it is not possible for both sides to gain everything that they desire, Eroğlu said that it is important to compromise.

Eroğlu also underlined that it is not possible to reach a settlement by giving unilaterally and while giving something it is necessary to take another thing and added that their aim is to reach a bi-zonal, bi-communal settlement which is based on political equality of the two founding states.

ÖZERSAY: “IT HAS BEEN A GOOD START”

Turkish Cypriot negotiator Kudret Özersay indicated that they had a good start at the meeting with the Greek Cypriot negotiator Mavroyannis in the buffer zone yesterday (19th February 2014) and added that delegations of visits on 27 February became clear.

Evaluating the meeting to BRT Özersay said: “We have been pleased with the meeting held today. Furthermore, not only the Turkish side but the Greek side also has been pleased. This is a positive development. I think that this is a good start and I can easily say that from now on we have started to handle the essence of matters.”

Indicating that the procedure of negotiations was discussed at the meeting Özersay said: “it is possible to conclude that there is a general understanding about the procedure of negotiations between the two sides. We have started to discuss the essence of the matters one by one. I can say that there is a consensus regarding the general conduct and procedure of negotiations.”
