Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Kudret Özersay has announced via his social media account that the Ledra Palace border crossing point, which has only been open to diplomats since 22 June, will be opened to all pedestrians as of today, (July 1, 2020) between 8am and 8pm for the time being.

Özersay underlined that the rules for passing through land gates, in general, will be implemented as follows: ‘Passengers from Category A countries will be able to use all open land border crossing points if they present a negative PCR test obtained within 72 hours prior to entering our country.

Passengers from Category B countries are required to use the Metehan Border Checkpoint where they will undergo a second test if they present a negative PCR test obtained within 72 hours of entry into our country.

Passengers from Category C countries must use the Metehan Land Border Gate to be taken to centres where they will remain in 14-day mandatory quarantine if they present a negative PCR test obtained 72 hours prior to entry into our country.’

  1. Does this mean that people arriving at Larnaca from Cat B country will be able to cross into TRNC

    1. Now we have a new POSITIVE case just arrived the situation could change so do watch this space for more news

  2. On July 1, my son and me arrived in Larnaca from Vienna, where we stay most of the year with a negativ PCR test but were not allowed by the greek border control at Metehan to enter the TRNC and therefore we returned to Vienna the next day. We are very disappointed. Hilde Zia

    1. That’s very sad to hear Hilda.

What reason did the Greek border police give for not letting you pass into the TRNC

  3. the reasons told to us at the greek border was the corona pandemie. I have the Ausrian subject but also the Kimlik card of the north as my husband who passed away was a Turkish Cypriot and we also have a house and land in Zeytinlik. I am very sorry that we could not enter our second home.
    Best regards, Hilde Zia
