Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said that Turkey will continue to spend efforts to find a solution to the Cyprus problem which will protect the rights and security of the Turkish Cypriots.

President Erdoğan gave a speech at the 74th General Assembly of the United Nations. In his speech, as well as the regional and global problems, Erdoğan also mentioned the Eastern Mediterranean and Cyprus issue. Erdoğan said “A solution without the guarantee of Turkey is evil minded. The negotiations which have been continuing for 50 years could not reach a solution due to the uncompromising attitude of the Greek Cypriot side. Turkey will protect the rights and interests of the Turkish Cypriots in the Eastern Mediterranean for all time”.

Erdoğan also stressed “We consider the energy resources in the Eastern Mediterranean as an important field of cooperation with a win-win understanding. We are open to any kind of proposal based on cooperation and fair sharing”.
