By Margaret Sheard ….
We have been friends of Mary and Trevor Hughes for a number of years and were devastated to hear of the death of Mary on 10th September in Istanbul where she had gone for specialist surgery.
Mary is well known for her involvement in many activities and hobbies over the years, including patchwork and pottery, I had always admired the many pots she had produced which are displayed in the garden of their home in Karsiyaka. She was also a very competent seamstress and spent a lot of time at her sewing machine.
More recently, with her husband Trevor, Mary was involved in the field of insurance initially with Dagli Sigorta and then Capital Bank. Both Mary and Trevor have given a lot of help and support to expatriates when experiencing difficulties, not only with vehicle issues, but also with many other aspects of rules and regulations for expats in the TRNC.
Trevor would like to thank Birtan, the Branch Manager of Capital Bank, Alsancak, who immediately travelled to Turkey to help with the complex formalities and paperwork. Trevor said that without his help he would not have been able to cope with the situation in which he found himself and it shows the very caring attitude of Capital Bank. Capital Insurance also gave a large sum of money to help Trevor with the financial costs towards bringing Mary back home.
The funeral will take place at Lapta Cemetery on Monday 16th September at 11am. No flowers and there will be no dress code, please just go along to pay your last respects to a lovely lady.
Condolences to Trevor and the family at this very sad time.
Mary – Rest in Peace
