The European University of Lefke recently organised a photography competition. The theme of the competition was “Lefke from a point of view”.

In total 49 photography lovers participated in the competition. A total number of 388 photographs were entered in the competition.  The competition was organised in the categories of  “students” and “Non Students”.

The Selection Committee (Jury) Members included many respected artists, painters and academicians such as Feridun Işıman (Painter), Mehmet Gökyiğit (Photograph Artist), Salih Sevindik (Photograph Artist), Atila Karaderi (Photograph Artist, Teacher), Ediz Tuncel (Photograph Artist, Academician), Faruk Kalkan (Dean of EUL Faculty of Communication Sciences) , Birsel Matara (Academician of EUL Faculty of Communication Sciences).

In the colour category of “Non-Students” main field, Saydam Soy won the first place with his work entitled “Single Rock”, Yıltan Taşçı won second place with his work entitled “My Green Lefke” and Hasan Karlıdağ third place with his work entitled “Green Lefke”. 25 works in this category were deemed worthy of exhibition.

In the black and white category of “Non-Students” main field, Yıltan Taşçı won the first place with his work entitled “Backgammon Pleasure in Lefke”, Cem Cengiz second place with his work entitled “Quiet Harbour” and Ayla Atay third place with her work  “Mansions of Lefke”. 17 works in this category were deemed worthy of exhibition.

In the colour category of “Students” main field, Toosef Rehman won the first place with his work entitled “Ancient Kingdom”, Mikail Kolçelik second place with his work entitled “Pir Pasha Mosque and Monument Sycamore Tree” and Şükran Beyza Düşer third place with her work “Ancient Structures”. 27 works in this category were deemed worthy of exhibition.

In the black and white category of “Students” main field, Yaşar Demirci won the first place with his work entitled “Sunset in Lefke”, Toosef Rehman second place with his work entitled “Sinless” and Kofi Arku Bansah third place with his work “Boy Camera Fascination”. 31 works in this category were deemed worthy of exhibition.

In addition, Yıltan Taşçı won the special jury prize for his work entitled “Picturesque” in the competition.

With the opening of EUL’s 2019-2020 Academic Year, a ceremony will be held on a scheduled date and the awards will be presented to the contestants who have received degrees. In addition, the award-winning works and works that are worthy to be exhibited, will be presented to art lovers with an exhibition to be opened.
