A ceremony was held on 8th August 2019 to mark the introduction of daily scheduled flights from Ercan to Hatay by Anadolu Jet.
Speaking at the ceremony, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation Kemal Bağzıbağlı, stated that new destinations are being organised and the opening of the new airport will allow large-bodied aircraft, which will increase the number of passengers and therefore reduce ticket prices.
Mustafa Sofi, General Manager of Civil Aviation, pointed out that the number of flights has been increased from 2,300.000 to 4,000.000 in a period of 7 years and that they will be ready for international flights with the new airport.
The Minister of Tourism and Environment Ünal Üstel, in his speech at the ceremony, said that they had started to see the fruits of the initiative made over a period of time, and that technical work is being carried out for the reduction of ticket prices.
Anadolu Jet Marketing Manager, Ahmet Yildiz, said that in April, he started direct flights to 4 cities and Hatay will now be the 7th destination.
Yildiz also stated that flights from Turkey to TRNC had increased with 110% capacity, and he is full of faith in the TRNC tourism potential, so that they would increase their investment.
