Turkish National Defence Minister Hulusi Akar stated that Turkey’s aim, efforts, and the basic idea is to make peace, stability, and tranquillity permanent in Cyprus.

Emphasizing that achieving a just, lasting, bi-communal, bi-zonal and comprehensive solution based on political equality in Cyprus will bring peace, stability and tranquillity to the island, Akar said that all of the activities are for achieving this and they want it to be seen by everyone.

Akar stressed that just as the Republic of Turkey and the Turkish Armed Forces stood by the Turkish Cypriots in 1964 in Erenköy and in 1974 at the Peace Operation and did not remain silent in respect of their sufferings, Turkey is still here with the same feeling today.

Akar also added: “We are in favour of the peaceful solution of the problems in Cyprus, in the Aegean and in the Eastern Mediterranean within the framework of good neighbourly relations and respect for international law. This is our basic approach. We are in favour of peaceful solutions.”
