Stating that there was no point in sitting at the table for the sake of negotiating in Cyprus, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said: “The parties must agree on a common vision and base for the resumption of negotiations”.
Çavuşoğlu spoke within the framework of the 11th Ambassadors’ Conference held yesterday (05/08/2019).

Noting that the Greek Cypriot Administration continues to see itself as a unitary state and the sole owner of the island and the Turkish Cypriots as a minority, Çavuşoğlu said that it is this mentality that has resulted in the failure of the negotiation processes within the framework of the United Nations (UN) since 1968.

Pointing out that the Greek Cypriots still lack the will to share political equality and prosperity with the Turkish Cypriots, Çavuşoğlu said that the latest example of this is the Greek Cypriot hydrocarbon activities in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Çavuşoğlu added: “I would like to emphasize once again our determination to protect the rights of our country on the continental shelf recorded by the UN and the fundamental rights of Turkish Cypriots on natural resources. Our stance is sharp and clear on this issue.
