By Chris Elliott ….

For lovers of fine music and song, there is a special treat coming to North Cyprus on Saturday 3rd August at 8.00pm at Karaman Church when Demetra George accompanied by Rauf Kasimov come together to create that special night like no other.

Demetra led the audience of several thousand on Friday night 19th July for the 20th July Dawn Vigil in the singing of the Turkish National anthem. The retired General from the ‘74 Peace Mission found her afterwards and congratulated her on singing it with the proper voice like an aria and with passion.

That brought tears to her eyes to hear. Demet, as her Turkish friends call her, has sung the anthem all across America’s major cities, in Istanbul and Izmir for the special Turkish holidays and for world diplomats.

She’s a double Grammy List Nominee, former Miss Oklahoma and received an award as a Cultural Diplomat by the US State Department for sharing US culture abroad.

International Award Winning Maestro, Rauf Kasimov a regular performer at Karaman Church has the most successful piano students on the island who have been and continue to win the top prizes in international competitions like no others!

Bravo to him and his wife Ayla for all their huge efforts to raise the level of artistry in the TRNC for talented young artists.

The location is beautiful for this type of concert and a donation of 50TL will include admission, a glass of wine and the show will have prizes for opera aficionados!!

Seats are limited but can be booked by emailing karamanchurch@outlook.com
