Nidai Güngördü, Mayor of Girne, was elected as the Chairman of Culture and Tourism Committee for the 2019-2022 period of the United Cities and Local Governments Middle East and West Asia Regional Organization (UCLG-MEWA).

The 6th Congress of the Organization of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG-MEWA) was held on 9th-10th July in Amman, Jordan. Nidai Güngördü was elected as the Chairman of Culture and Tourism Committee for UCLG-MEWA 2019-2022 period, where 280 cities were actively represented. Güngördü was also appointed as a member of the council as a result of the voting. The first meeting will be chaired by Nidai Güngördü for the planning of the next 3 years in Girne in November.

Girne Mayor Nidai Güngördü stated that Girne, the tourism capital of the TRNC, has come to the forefront in cultural and artistic activities in recent years. He said that they would represent our country in the best way by stating that this was a first in the name of our country. Güngördü said that the Municipality has started preparations due to the chairmanship of the committee which is very important for the promotion of the country.

    TRNC needs to do as much as we are allowed to since our neighbours put embargoes on us so that we cannot promote our Culture and Tourism.  Another one of their Apartheid rules to be suffered by us and applauded by their friends the GREAT EU for doing so.

    With our respect and hopefully one day they will come to terms with the TRUTH.
