Palestine and Nigeria recently emerged as winners in the men and women sections of the University Cup of Nation Futsal 2019 Tournament, recently organised by the Eastern Mediterranean University in Famagusta.
The tournament aroused great interest in the sports loving students in TRNC. As in the last year, Nigeria has become the champions of the Women’s group after the final match played between Nigeria and the TRNC. In the men’s category, Palestine became champions by defeating Nigeria. Turkey came third in the women’s category by defeating Iran. Again, Turkey came third in the men’s category after defeating Swaziland.
Following the matches, there was an award ceremony where the top teams were presented with cups and medals. Cups and medals were awarded to the champions by EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam. Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Sonuç Zorlu Oğurlu presented awards to the teams who came second and Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Halit Tanju Besler presented awards to teams who finished third.
In the female category the Best Goalkeeper Award went to Sadat Momoh, the Top Scorer Award went to Zeliha, Dwiete Kim and Moji, the Best Player Award went to Dwiete Kim, and the Fair Play Team Award went to Congo. Meanwhile in the men’s category the Best Goalkeeper Award went to Mohammad Said, the Top Scorer Award went to Mohammad Ibrahim, the Fair-Play Team Award went to Yemen, the Best Player Award went to Salah and the Best Coach Award went to Swaziland. Additionally, the Best Student Community Award went to Palestine. The awards were presented to the winners by the Sports Affairs Directorate personnel.
