Fikri Toros….

Pianist Gülseren Sadak, has passed away at the age of 88.

She was the only child of renowned cellist, professor, orchestra and choral conductor Muhiddin Sadak and Mihri Hacıbekir, a member of the well known Hacıbekir family.

Gülseren started her musical training at the age of 4. After her graduation in 1952, she went to Marguerite Long in Paris, upon the special recommendation of Cemal Reşit Rey.

She has given recitals in many countries and has worked with famous maestros and orchestras

I met Gülseren in 2009. During our piano lessons, she would insist on teaching me the French musical terminology, along with romantic and eccentric dynamics.  She always chose to express herself with the works of her favourite composers Chopin, Liszt and Rachmaninoff.

In her recital at the 2017 Bellapais Music Festival, together we played Schubert’s Marche Militaire for four hands.

We will always remember her with special feelings.

Rest in peace…

  1. A wonderful and brave lady. Gulseren played in Bellapais Abbey when two musicians were not permitted to play by the RO Cyprus. She was clearly struggling with her broken finger and indeed her doctor was present.

Gulseren deserved her reputation as a magnificent pianist. I met her family that night in the Abbey. How proud and happy they were. I hope and trust they remember that occasion when Gulseren played, probably in agony, but with dignity and love.

    RIP Gulseren Sadak.
