Özersay received the National Billiard Player Gaffari
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Kudret Özersay received National Billiard Player Alara Gaffari who reached the third place in the 2017 European Youth Billiard Championship.
In his speech at the reception, Özersay pointed out that the new generation is self-confident, hardworking and talented and said: “Our responsibility is to support the youngsters who are successfully representing our country in the international arena despite all the obstructions and initiatives.”
Nami: “Energy resources in the Eastern Mediterranean should turn into a peace project”
The Minister of Economy and Energy Özdil Nami stated that the energy resources in the Eastern Mediterranean should turn 
into a peace project and added “If this principle is adopted, cooperation which embraces all sides can be established so our energy resources will become a source of prosperity for the region”.
Minister Nami gave a speech at the opening of the 10th. Energy Efficiency Forum and Exhibition where he attended as the guest of the Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Fatih Dönmez.
In his speech, Nami said “We have made all kind of efforts and showed the will for the solution of the Cyprus problem which will be useful not only in Cyprus but in the Eastern Mediterranean as well. Although there was a positive approach by the Turkish Cypriots and the guarantor country Turkey, the process for a solution failed due to the Greek Cypriot Leader leaving the negotiation table. The Turkish Cypriots should not be punished anymore and unfair and inhuman isolations imposed on the Turkish Cypriots should be ended. Our stance is clear. The energy resources in the Eastern Mediterranean should turn into a peace project. If this principle is adopted, cooperation which embraces all sides can be established so our energy resources will become a source of prosperity for the region”.

Stating that the statements and approaches involving hatred and discrimination should be avoided, UBP Deputy Hamza Ersan Saner called on the Council of Europe to encourage the Greek Cypriot side to rewrite their history books.
UBP Gazimağusa MP Hamza Ersan Saner, and CTP Güzelyurt MP Armağan Candan continued their contacts yesterday (11/04/2019) at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), the General Assembly and Committee meetings which were held in Strasbourg, France between the dates of 8-12 April, 2019.
Saner observed the issue of the study of the compatibility of the quality of history books in the member countries of the Council of Europe at the meeting of Culture, Science, Education, and Media Committee which was held yesterday (11th April).
After the presentation, Saner emphasized the importance of conveying history to the younger generations and said that our history is an undeniable part of our culture, and identity.
Pointing out that the statements and the approaches that include hatred and discrimination about the history education should be avoided, Saner stated that such approaches are unacceptable.
Reiterating that the Council of Europe has recommended new approaches to history education on both sides of the island, Saner said that as Turkish Cypriots they do their utmost.
Saner noted that despite all international pressures the Greek Cypriots are still writing their history books containing hatred and discrimination willingly, and regret to say that the Greek Cypriot youth are still brought up as anti-Turk.
Saner also stated that the decision to celebrate the Enosis Day at schools, which was approved by the Greek Cypriot House of Representatives in Parliament in 2017, was extremely regrettable and he strongly protested this decision.
At the end of his speech, Saner called on the Council of Europe to encourage the Greek Cypriot members of the Council of Europe to rewrite their history books.
The first Turkish Cypriot woman journalist Bedia Okan passed away
The first Turkish Cypriot woman journalist Bedia Okan passed away in İzmir at the age of 98.
Bedia Okan was born in Cyprus in 1921 and she was the daughter of Remzi Okan who was the first publisher of the Turkish newspaper written by using Latin Alphabet to inform Turkish Cypriots about the Turkish Independence War and Atatürk’s Reforms.
