Women artists begin event studies in Girne

Under the auspices of the Department of Culture, with the contribution of the Municipality of Girne and collaboration of the Interactive Drama Association the 5th International Women Artists Meeting, began with a press conference at Girne Public Library.

Attending the conference were Girne Mayor Nidai Güngördü, Culture Department Fine Arts Branch Chief Nuri Ünüçok, International Women Artists Art Meetings Project Coordinator and Curator İpek Denizli Karagöz, Interactive Drama Association Vice President Özgür Umut, this year’s honour guests Emel Samioğlu and Imet Tatar and women artists.

Nidai Güngördü speaking at the press conference said, art is produced in the area where the world is spreading the theme of peace, and war is not emphasised in art. Nidai Güngördü stated that the Municipality of Girne was a municipality believing in the arts and artists and those participating in the conference would emit light with the work they have created. Mayor Güngördü, said that work is continuing with the Girne Women’s Art Museum.

After the speeches, female artists who participated in the event were introduced. At the event, the TRNC was represented by painting and ceramic artists Semral Öztan, Gökçe Keçeci, Nergül Gezer Dundar and Bedia Kale, while from Turkey, Prof. Dr. Meliha Yılmaz and Emel Ülüş, Elmira Shokr Pour from Iran, Massira Toure from Mali, Sangeeta Gupta from India, Guadalupe Romero Silva from Brazil, Gala Caki from Serbia, Radmila Lizdek from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Elizabeta Avramovska from Macedonia.

The event will be held from 11th to 19th March with the aim of enabling artists from different countries, cultures and disciplines to produce joint art together with the artists of the TRNC. The works that will be completed by the participating artists at the Girne Public Library will be presented to art lovers in exhibitions to be held in İsmet Vehit Güney Exhibition Hall (18th to 22nd March) and the Municipality of Girne Art Gallery (1st to 10th April).
