It’s good to see that since we last visited the Karşiyaka primary school that the great supporters group have continued to work hard to improve the lives and prospects of the children that go to the school and we have just received this latest news:

From Amanda Fiora.

Yildiz Ozalp and Mus Aziz

Teachers and staff from Karşiyaka primary school took the opportunity of a sunny day on Monday 11th March to visit Jessic’s Bar and Restaurant where so much successful fundraising has taken place to add to facilities for Karşiyaka schoolchildren.

Led by Head teacher Yildiz Ozalp, they joined the Trustees of the ‘Jessic’s Friends of Karşiyaka School Children’ Society for a convivial lunch to discuss what has been achieved so far, and what will be done next.

They were welcomed on behalf of the Trustees by Jim Paterson, and Mus Aziz presented them with the 12 Lego education sets to help the school children’s technical problem solving and creative skills.

Jessic’s proprietors Mus and Deniz, supported by the other Trustees, are keen to add to the music facilities available at the school, so the next major step looks to be improving the selection of instruments and lessons to encourage all youngsters to express their musical talents.  The possibilities of creating after-school clubs for music and English language are also being looked at, and were met with an enthusiastic response from those gathered.

The next major fundraising Auction ‘Pub-Day’ will be held at Jessic’s Bar and Restaurant on April 21st (Easter Sunday) with a Kebab BBQ being served from 1pm, and a fantastic auction with Auctioneer Karl Rugg starting from 3.00pm (ish).  A raffle draw will take place after the Auction ends and will be followed by live music with the ever-popular Peter Dawson.

Jessic’s are welcoming donations of all sorts suitable for the Auction, Raffle, and for the popular “Make an Offer” bargain table, and with the time of year just right for a ‘Spring-Clean’ we’re hoping that lots of hidden treasures will be uncovered.

100% of funds raised go directly to projects directly benefiting Karşiyaka schoolchildren and have so far assisted the refurbishment and equipping of a media-room and library, and the provision of ‘Lego’ educational sets to help with STEM learning skills.

Jessic’s are open every day from 11 a.m. to receive any items, or phone Deniz on 0533 858 7322.
