International Women’s Day tribute to Kamran Aziz and Jale Derviş

On the occasion of 8th March International Women’s Day, Girne Municipality organised a poetry and music concert in memory of the pianist and composers Kamran Aziz and Jale Derviş.

The event took place at the Girne Municipality Chamber Theater. Minister of Labour and Social Security Zeki Çeler, Girne Mayor Nidai Güngördü and citizens attended the event. The event was hosted by Oya Kutsal and started with a visual presentation by Eralp Adanır in memory of Kamran Aziz and Jale Derviş.  There was music provided by the St Hilarion String Quartet.

Çeler: Our women are doing important work

Zeki Çeler, Minister of Labour and Social Security said that women in our country are doing important work in every field of life and especially in art and culture and pointed out that the Municipality of Girne made important contributions to culture and art. Minister Çeler thanked Oya Kutsal who hosted the event and those who also contributed to the event.

Girne Mayor Nidai Güngördü stated that Kamran Aziz left permanent works with the songs ”Al Yemeni mor Yemeni” and “Kıbrısım” (My Cyprus) to Turkish Cypriot music. Jale Derviş, who returned to her country after studying piano in England, trained many Turkish and Greek Cypriot pianists and also introduced Cypriots to classical music.

Güngördü, said the 8th March International Women’s Day touched on the contribution of two Turkish Cypriot artists in the field of music and thanked those who had contributed to the event.
