Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said: “We are starting drilling in our exclusive economic zone and also in the areas where the TRNC has given us license”.
In his speech at an event he attended, Çavuşoğlu touched upon the Cyprus issue and he also stressed that Turkey tries to do its utmost to solve the Cyprus issue and also put forward new ideas.
Çavuşoğlu said that the aim was to achieve a result, to solve the Cyprus problem in a peaceful way, but would not tolerate the Greek Cypriot side starting drilling in the Western Mediterranean and around Cyprus.
Çavuşoğlu also added that “We defend the interests of the Turkish Cypriots and Turkey there. Our drilling platform has arrived and we began drilling in the Alanya-1 region, our second platform will arrive in the coming days and we will start drilling in our exclusive economic zone and also in the areas where the TRNC has given us license. No matter what anyone says”.
