Slimmers World had their last meeting before Christmas at their normal venue of Sartaj Restaurant in Çatalköy on Saturday 22nd December.
Unfortunately we were unable to join them at their start time and so missed the “weigh-in”, but we learned that Karen had won the slimmer of the week and she had also won the top of the tree, which was the target Christmas tree to which the weight losses had been added each week. Well done Karen.
When we arrived the group was starting the raffle which consisted of 14 very nice prizes which had been donated during the past months and so with the exception of 1 of the group, all of the members won a prize and in some cases 2. A prize of a meal for 2 at Lord’s Palace was won by Val Stuart-Traynor, the leader of the group, but she decided to forego it and it will go into a further raffle at the end of January.
I think Val was rather overcome when she was presented with a lovely floral basket and a bottle of champagne as a thank you for taking on the role of leader this year to allow the group to continue.
Since August this year the group have raised 1,379TL which will be donated to their chosen charity – Kyrenia Animal Rescue (KAR).
The group feel that continuity of their meetings is important and so they will not be taking a break for the festive season and will meet on 29th December, then continuing into 2019.
The Slimmers World group had given themselves an affectionate nickname of “the Fat Club” but as they are all doing so well, from January 2019 they will now refer to themselves as “the Thin Club”.
Val told us that at Easter time, both she and Kate Bell have their birthdays and they have set themselves a target of losing 11lbs each by that time. It is intended to have a further raffle then and the group would be very appreciative of any items donated for prizes which of course helps towards raising funds for KAR.
