It was good to receive news this week from the Rotary Club of Kyrenia Cosmopolitan about the Christmas Party they organised at the Karakum 18+ Rehabilitation Centre.
“The Rotary Club of Kyrenia Cosmopolitan, organised a Christmas Party on Tuesday 11th December at the 18+ Rehabilitation Centre in Karakum, providing them with a host of presents and prizes. Esen Karaç who is a special needs educational teacher of music, provided the entertainment and co-ordinated the party games.
This centre facilitates up to 25 individuals ranging from the age of 18 to 40. These men and women suffer from a complex of disabilities, ranging from mental health issues to physical disabilities. The event was sponsored by the Merit International Group who provided all the catering facilities to an extremely high standard. The proposed development which is also going to be sponsored by the Merit International Group, with the help of the Kyrenia Municipality, is to improve their facilities within the present building and to reconstruct, develop and secure their surrounding grounds. This will involve the preparation of pitches where a variety of sports can be played, which will help with their rehabilitation.
Our prospective new member Pelin Kutluba is taking an important role in the organisation of this project, assisted by our club members, Past President Gultac Ozsan, Figen Rasmussen our club secretary, Trudy Mace, Ben and Ayten Benoit, Alan and Lesley Fairley. Hakkı Muftuzade our Club President with his wife Rt Behiye Muftuzade and Vice President Rahmi Ozsan, also attended the event and will be assisting with the sponsorship.”
