The research study by the researchers of Near East University, got the top award in the XXXVIII International Turkish Microbiology Congress held at Starlight Hotel, Antalya on 4th to 8th November 2018.
The title of the research study was “Analysis of HIV/AIDS Epidemic in Cyprus by Using a Mathematical Model”; and was conducted by the research team consisting of microbiologists, mathematicians and infectious diseases specialists under the supervision of Professor Tamer Sanlıdag, Near East University Vice Rector and the Head of the Experimental Health Sciences Research Center (DESAM).
According to the information provided by the Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University, Professor Tamer Şanlıdağ and his research team participated in the International Symposium on Migration, Travel & Infection with an oral presentation on “Analysis of HIV/AIDS Epidemic in Cyprus by Using a Mathematical Model”. The presentation attracted great interest and was deemed worthy for the best award in the oral presentation category. Near East University are proud to receive the first prize at an international platform once again.
Based on the investigation results, the study presents data that there is currently no HIV/AIDS epidemic on the island of Cyprus. The study also predicts an increase in AIDS virus in both Northern and Southern parts of the island in approximately 10 years if measures are not taken. The study estimates that this increase will continue until 2055.

Underlining that rational understanding and production was one of the basic principles of Near East University, Professor Şanlıdağ stated that many researchers other than the research team represented Near East University in the best way and expressed the satisfaction of sharing a total of 15 research results at the Congress.
