Akıncı to meet Anastasiades

President Mustafa Akıncı and the Greek Cypriot Leader Nikos Anastasiades are going to meet on Friday, 26 October 2018 at 10:00am in the buffer zone.

According to the statement of the Speaker of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), the UN Secretary General’s Special Representative to Cyprus, Elizabeth Spehar, will host the meeting which will take place at the residence of the UN Chief of Mission.

Erhürman: “Political equality is our sine-qua-non”

“It does not matter if the federation has a strong centre or strong wings in Cyprus, political equality is our sine-qua-non “said Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman.

Erhürman stated that they want the Cyprus problem to be solved with a fair and permanent formula based on political equality because such a solution will contribute to the national economy and open the way for business people and the public.

Erhürman who went to the Mersin Province of Turkey as a guest of the Silifke Chamber of Commerce and Industry made a speech at the “Leadership Academy and Strategy Workshop”.

Erhürman indicated that nowadays there is a dynamism in the Cyprus issue, yet where are they going to reach is not known and he continued:

“Recently, Anastasiades’ new proposal is not a strong centred federation but a federation which has strong wings, in other words strong constituent states. Why? Because he cannot explain to his people about the issue of political equality. We say that political equality is essential whether there is a federation with a strong centre or strong wings in Cyprus. You should explain this to your people Mr. Anastasiades.”

TRNC Assembly Delegation held official contacts in Brussels

A delegation from the TRNC Assembly held official contacts in Brussels. The delegation had contacts with many parliamentarians, party leaders, deputies and working group members responsible for enlargement and neighbouring policies of many EU member countries. The delegation also held various contacts and round table meetings in the presence of the Federal Government of Belgium.

During the meetings, current developments in Cyprus, negotiation processes from past to present and the Turkish Cypriot side’s views regarding the method and methodology to be followed in the further process were conveyed. It was also stressed that the process should be planned as result oriented and within the framework of a calendar.

The deputies reminded that two of the six seats allocated for Cyprus in the European Parliament belong to the Turkish Cypriot side and made attempts to force the preparation of the necessary legal and political procedures for election of the Turkish Cypriot representatives at the EP Parliamentary Election to be held in May 2019.

The delegation also conveyed once more to the authorities the unfair isolation imposed on the Turkish Cypriot side which is one of the two equal sides on the island.
