Minister of Public Works and Transportation Tolga Atakan and technocrats from his Ministry briefed Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman on the progress of the work to open the Aplıç border crossing.
Prime Minister Erhürman was accompanied by members of the cabinet, military commanders, and bureaucrats during his visit to the area where he was briefed.
Departments under the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation began their work at the end of September to complete the remaining infrastructure, which will be a temporary measure to allow crossings.
In addition to communications and power infrastructure, the remaining asphalt laying work has been completed and cabins that will accommodate immigration, police, customs, and insurance personnel have been placed.
The date of the opening for Derinya border gate in Mağusa and the Aplıç border gate in Lefke, which will be the 6th and 7th border crossing points between TRNC and the Greek Cypriot administration, is expected to be decided jointly by President Mustafa Akıncı and Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Anastasiades.
