The Cyprus International University (CIU), Psychological Counseling and Guidance Centre (PCGC) visited Lapta Nursing Home on 1st of October; World Elderly Day.

During the visit, accompanied by volunteer students and specialist psychologists studying at the University, they had the opportunity to chat with the elderly and to share their experiences.

Çise Haşimoğulları, PCGC Psychologist, stated that the main purpose of the activity was to provide an opportunity for young people to support the elderly in a spiritual sense and to raise awareness about love and respect.

Hasimoğullari said the event was organised to contribute to the social development of the students and to provide the opportunity to spend their free time in a more positive, useful, and efficient way.

Çise Haşimoğulları pointed out that they give importance to the social responsibility projects at the Psychological Counseling and Guidance Centre and they try to come together with the elderly people in Lapta Nursing Home every year on World Elderly Day.

Psychologist Haşimoğulları said that visits to the nursing home are important for the elderly individuals and she said that they organized this visit in order to make them feel that they are close to the elderly.

Residents of the nursing home expressed their satisfaction by saying “We are very happy when the students come to visit us, we feel that we are not alone. ”
