Girne Municipality held a press conference for the 17th Olive Festival to be held in Zeytinlik on 5th to 9th October. The meeting was held in Girne Art Gallery.
The Mayor of Girne, Nidai Güngördü, Ali Tektan, Ziya Egemen Sencer, Mehmet Nur Ateş and Sadi Erdendoğ participated. The festival program was announced at the meeting.
Girne Mayor Nidai Güngördü, expressed happiness for the 17th Olive Festival being held this year and the importance of olives and the bi-products Nidai Güngördű also said that by organizing seminars within the scope of the festival, it will raise awareness about the protection of the existing olive trees, and pointed out that about one thousand new olive trees have been planted.
The festival will give presentations on olive and bi-products, and olive and olive oil competitions. There will be a commemoration of the writer and poet, Ali Nesim, and a variety of cultural, artistic and sports activities taking place. The International Olive Cartoon contest will be held with participants from Turkey and guests from Radauti, Romania. The festival will close with a concert by Bülent Ortaçgil

Friday, 5 October
The 17th Girne Olive Festival will start on Friday, October 5th at 18:00 with a cortege from Ramadan Cemil Square to Atatürk Square. The opening ceremony will be held at 19:00 at Zeytinlik Village Festival Area, incense will be burned and stalls will be opened. At 19:30 there will be a performance of the Kyrenia Municipality Folk Dance Ensemble. Grup Otantik will perform at 19.45 and at 21.00 there will be a performance by Group SOS.
Saturday, 6 October
Girne Municipality Olive Tennis Tournament at 09:00, Award Winning Billiards Tournament at 17:00, Applied Cartoon Workshop at 18:00, Catalkoy Municipality Folk Dance Ensemble at 18:30, Pure at 19:00 Presentations of Organic Soap, Dishwashing Detergent and Shampoo Production from Olive Oil, Utku and Gizem House Band Concert at 19:00, Friends Line Dance Show at 20:30 and Group Gancelli Concert at 21:00 will take place.
