Akıncı meets with leaders of political parties

Yesterday (20th September), President Mustafa Akıncı met with the leaders of political parties which form the government.   Leader of Republican Turkish Party (CTP) and Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman, Leader of People’s Party (HP) and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Kudret Özersay, Leader of Communal Democracy Party and Minister of National Education and Culture Cemal Özyiğit and Leader of Democrat Party and Minister of Finance Serdar Denktaş attended the meeting which was held at the Presidential Palace.

During the meeting, the current stage on the Cyprus issue was discussed ahead of the meeting to be held in New York in the coming days.

Akıncı will also meet with the leaders of the opposition parties of the Republican Assembly today (21st September).

Turkish National Security Council: “Rights and Interests will be protected by using all opportunities”

It was noted in the declaration following the meeting of the Turkish National Security Council held at the Turkish Presidential Palace that the rights and interests of Turkey will be protected by using all opportunities towards the initiatives against the interests of TRNC and Turkey.

It was also stated that information about the developments in the Aegean and Mediterranean was submitted to the National Security Council and it was stressed again that rights and interests of the country will be protected.

Dönmez : “Turkey’s attitude and stance is clear in the Eastern Mediterranean”

Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister, Fatih Donmez indicated that they will not allow any fait accompli in the Eastern Mediterranean without the approval of Turkey.

During his speech at the 9th Exploration and Production Activity Consultation meeting in Ankara, Dönmez pointed out that Turkey has increased her power in the seas with Barbaros, Oruç Reis and Fatih vessels.

Dönmez continued: “We will not allow a single-sided system where the rights of Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) are ignored and where the parties on the island do not have a fair and equitable share. Turkey’s attitude and stance on this issue is clear. We are determined to defend our rights and interests in accordance with international law until the end.”
