Akıncı received Spehar
President Mustafa Akıncı received the UN Secretary General’s Special Representative to Cyprus Elizabeth Spehar yesterday (18th September).
In her speech following the meeting, Spehar said that she had a fruitful meeting with Akıncı ahead of the UN General Assembly. Stating that UN Secretary General will be meeting separately with both leaders at the end of this month in New York, Spehar said that the meetings have great importance in terms of evaluating the current stage and developments.
Adding that UN Security Council would like to see the sides return to the negotiation table and steps which will contribute to a solution are increased, Spehar said that the UN Security Council expects a report from UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres which will give them some indication of what they could expect. Spehar expressed that she supports the efforts of the UN Security Council for a solution in Cyprus but moving forward depends on the Leaders.
