The Girne Municipality 8th Culture and Art Days welcomed an important musical artist, Fatih Erkoç, from Turkey.  

The Fatih Erkoç concert was held at Girne Amphitheatre on Tuesday 4th September, where he sang a variety of different local and foreign music in Turkish, English and Arabic, and had a standing ovation from the audience.  Erkoç, who also played wind instruments during the concert, said to the audience, “My hands are empty”, “Do not Go” and “Listen to a few songs”.

Girne Mayor Nidai Güngördü spoke at the concert and expressed his attention to the refugee movements and conflicts in the Middle East and the Mediterranean, expressing that this year’s slogan for the Culture and Art Days was “Peace through Art”.  Güngördü expressed his belief that art is a unifying force for humanity and hoped that these activities would be instrumental in peace and tolerance. Güngördü, stated that Turkey and Cyprus are passing through hard times economically and hoped that the concert would help to raise the morale of citizens.

At the end of his speech, Güngördü offered his thanks to the artist on behalf of the Municipality, the municipal councillors and the citizens of Girne.

Fatih Erkoç stated that he was excited to give a concert in Girne after many years.

Fatih Erkoç expressed that people are united through art, and noted that it is very influenced by the atmosphere of the Girne Amphitheatre and the energy of the audience.
