The “Ozanköy Pekmez Festival” traditionally organised by the Municipality of Girne ended on the evening of 2nd September.
The festival which is organised by Girne Municipality and Ozanköy Muhtarlığı is to promote the village for touristic presentation, to continue the production of carob and to encourage the consumption of molasses. The 10th year of the Ozanköy Pekmez Festival included many cultural and artistic activities during the 3 day period. On the last day of the festival, together with other performances, a Tetra concert and Orak Culture and Art Centre Folk Dance show were held.
A presentation was made by Girne Municipality Health Branch worker Naile Soyel on the “Benefits of Pekmezin Health”. The festival also held a “Pekmezli Dessert Contest”. There were 13 entries in the competition and the winner was Vildan Mıstıkoğlu, with 
Afet Shah second and Fazile Barut third. The festival ended with a concert by Ebru Aydin.
At the closing of the Festival, Girne Mayor Nidai Güngördü said that the purpose of the festival was carob and molasses, to make the products of the Ozanköy people economically valuable and to promote the village. Nidai Güngördü stated that the festival was held in Dr Fazıl Küçük Caddesi instead of the village square this year in order to avoid traffic congestion in the village and stated that the location of the festival next year will be determined in accordance with future requests.
