By Kim Betts (KAR) ….

This week news is about 2 of our recent doggy travellers Ruby and Sprat.

They had been staying with Dawn until it was time for them to travel to the UK to be reunited with Sue, who had been looking at all aspects of how to get her precious girls (who are both over 10 years old) to the UK (she quickly discarded the much whispered about “illegal way via South Cyprus”) and decided on the Ercan – Heathrow cargo route with KAR Pet Travel.

Dates for the girls’ travel were discussed in detail as they were due to travel in the summer months of July/August. It is not an ideal time to relocate pets – in fact many airlines across the world impose a summer embargo when the ground temperatures rise – but sometimes it has to be done.

The dogs travel date was set and we spoke to Turkish Airlines about the scheduled times – we needed the dogs to fly, from Ercan, in the evening but we also had to consider a back up contingency flight in the event that there was a problem with the initial booked aircraft. Sue and Dawn were worried about the time the dogs would be boxed and also about moving them during the daytime heat. We reassured them that we would do all that we could to ensure they travelled when it was cooler – however, we explained, sometimes things are beyond our control. We finally received the confirmation from Turkish Airlines that we had been hoping for – they were booked onto the evening flight out of Ercan (this still allowed a back up flight if there were any problems with the evening aircraft).

The girls came into the office in the afternoon and they were flight prepped and then transferred to Ercan for their final customs and airline checks (made more interesting for them by cheeky treats, handed out by Kim, courtesy of Dawn!).

Everything went well with Ruby and Sprats trip and it wasn’t too long before Sue heard her “special news” – they had landed at Heathrow and were fine.

Sue has sent KAR a couple of news updates and even a video of her collecting the girls from Heathrow Animal Reception Centre.

Hi Kim

Just a quick note to let you know ruby and sprat arrived safely and are in our car driving home.  Many thanks.

Thank you so much for your help over the last few months. Your calmness and professionalism certainly made their journey and our wait much easier.   I have attached the video of them coming out of the Animal Reception Centre and getting their leads in a knot!!  To see video click here

They are loving their walks in the cool and the grass and are meeting lots of people and their dogs and taking it all in their stride.

Once again, many thanks to you all.   Sue
